Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can my dog lay down?
Yes. Initially, for some larger dogs it might take some orientation to acclimate into a laying down position. Once the dog figures it out, this should not continue to be a problem. The side tethers should be adjusted so that when your dog is comfortably sitting upright it's backside is against the seat back
  • What if my dog is between sizes?
Dogs that fall between sizes should use the smaller of the two sizes
  • What if my dog is bigger then 60in (150cm)?
Unfortunately, we do not currently have a harness in this size range. Most dogs that start to get into a larger sizing bracket than 60in are also increasing in weight and since we have only tested to 75lbs (35kg) we cannot confidently provide a harness that fits heavier dogs without testing those comparable weights first.
  • What if my dog is smaller then 31in (75cm)?
If your pet measures less than 31in we advise using a crash tested pet carrier. Our testing has shown that car carriers are far safer for smaller pets. Sleepypod crash tested carriers include the Air, Atom and Sleepypod./li>
  • Can Clickit Utility be used with booster seats?
We have not tested Clickit Utility with a booster seat, therefore, we cannot advise on whether this is a safe configuration. Please note that safety could be reduced.
  • Can my dog lay down?
We have not tested Clickit Utility with a booster seat, therefore, we cannot advise on whether this is a safe configuration. Please note that safety could be reduced.
  • Can I use Clickit Utility with my seat cover?
Most seat covers have access points for seat belts. As long as these points are provided on either side of your dog you can access both the seatbelt and also attach side tethers to LATCH anchors located next to the seat belt areas. You can also opt to cut access point holes in some seat covers where they are not already provided.
  • Can I use Clickit Utility in my cargo?
We cannot confidently advise on the safety of this configuration based on a variety of variables not yet tested. However, if you are to utilize this area please contact your manufacturer or mechanic to ensure that any cargo anchors you use or install are attached to a steel structure of the vehicle and can withstand a force of at least 2000 lbs. Anchors must be 12 - 14in apart and mounted as close as possible the rear leg area on either side of the dog when seated forward
  • What if I have two dogs?
The safest way to use Clickit Utility is to use one harness system per set of LATCH anchors. Some vehicles have three LATCH anchor sets, while other only have two. We do not recommend sharing LATCH anchors to accommodate more dogs as it compromises pet safety
  • My harness is too big?
Please note that some adjustment tends to be initially overlooked. First, refer to our Clickit Utility Dog Safety Harness Strap Adjustment VIDEO. If you are still having problems with your Clickit Utility not fitting your dog please call our offices for further assistance before returning or exchanging for a smaller size. *To fully adjust a harness the two metal pieces on the adjustment strap should be right next to each other and adjusted down to the stitching that connects the adjustment strap to the main strap inside the vest sleeve.
  • My harness is too small?
If you find that your harness is too small for your dog then you will need to exchange/purchase a larger size.
  • What if my car doesn't have the LATCH anchors?
All cars manufactured and sold in the USA after 2003 were required to have the baby seat LATCH anchors installed. If your car was manufactured before 2003, check with your manufacturer as they may be able to instal them and in some cases this may be covered by warranty *NEEDS TO BE CHECKED. For more information about adding the LATCH system The Car Seat Lady has a great page that offers information on how to retrofit some cars.
